(prom tub daily times correspondent.) August 11, 1862. Our Provincial Council eloped their labors on the 15th ultimo, when His Honor the Superintendent delivered the usual address. The steamer Tasmanhn Maid, whose wreck and recoveiy were icported in my labt, has arrived safely in Nelson harbor, and having received some slight repairs she is again ready for sea; and will start oa Wednesday for Motueka and O6Hingwood. complete 1, and is a handsome it on structure 60 feet above the level of high water. The illuminating apparatus, is a eatadioptrio light of the fourth order, fixed. The light is produced by an oil lamp with a double circular wick and is concentrated and thrown i in the desired direction by means of silver reflectors placed at the back of tho lamp A li_,'!it will be seen for a distance of 12} nautu'itl mile-. It has been in operation .since Monday last. The lighthouse has bcea ordered from England by, and has been erected under the superintendence of Mr. J. Blackett, the Provincial Engineer, and reflects on him much credit. An oil veteran died here the other day, named Henry Thomas Persona, a«ed 77. He was a seaman onboard li. Her , captain died on the voyage on the 27t\i May, his I dcatn having been attributed to his having slept on n damp bed at tiie commencement of the voyage. j The weather his been very inclement hitely, and Nelson folks have been troubled with a disease called I '"the mumps" — not confine.l as in England, to young children and school-boys— 'out attacking aho persons ! of adult age. The schooner City of Nelson, about whose safety doubte were expressed in my last letter, has arrived back at Nelson all right, having been detained, wind bound, in one of the smaii lurbjrs on the West j Coist. At a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, held last week, it was res^vel to memorialize the General Assembly to re-establish the District Court or soino [ other mr-ans of recovciing sums up to £101), without waiting tor tho sitting of the .•Supi'em j Court. The Government wharf has been let by auction at i a rent ot £510 for a year. An election of four members of the Board of Works, took place on the 2l>t ult., and caused considerable excitement. The be*t news brought by thn vossol is, that the Australasian iSte.ua Company are about to put on a lurge steamer to run monthly between Sydney and the Southern settlements of New Zealand, making Nelson the first and List poi-t of call.
