INOCULATION, A PREVENTIVE OF PLEURO-PNEUMONIA IN CATTLE.

I (To the Editor of the Argus.) Sir, — The importance of jriving publicity to any means which may tend to prevent the spread, or even lessen the virulence, of the above malady amongst cattle, is the reason I request space in your widely-circulating journal. Since I wrote to you on this subject, vide 20th ultimo, in addition to the following enclosed copy of a letter addressed to m<; by the owners whose cattle I had experimented on, and have since been watching, Mr. Walters, M.RC V.S., a recent arrival, has stated to me some corroborative testimony, gathered during his pupilage at the Royal Veterinary College, London, the last year or two. " The professors there have tried, and found inoculation to succeed," aa we have at the Antipodes. I would only add, the sooner it is more extensively tried the better ; as by that time Parliament will, no doubt, take cognizance of its worth, enforce its adoption according to its merits, and be the means thus of saving (instead of slaying the innocents), to the tune of thousands of pounds to this colony. I have the honor to be, Sir, your obedient servant, Jojix MiscAMnus, M.It.C.V.S. Melbourne, June 20. (Copy.) "Melbourne, June 16, 1862. Mr. Miscamble. " Dear Sir, — Agreeably to your request. I beg to .eive you the result of inoculation of our cattle which you and I operated upon at Broadmeadowa. I am happy to inform you that it has exceeded my utmost expectation ; an 1 1 trust others, whom I would advise to inoculate, will realise 'those

benefits which, had I applied them earlier, would have saved me from much sorrow and loss. There has not one been taken ill or died this last four weeks, excepting two, to whom, by way of experiment, I had applied bad or putrid matter. The remainder of the lot operated on are now not only thriving but accumulating fat ; indcscl, you would scarcely know them again, they look so well. " Hoping you may be as successful in other instances, I am, dear sir, yours faithfully, (Signed) "R. Vlxxt," " Of Plant and Bungatu-"
