TOWN BOARD.

The usual weekly meeting of the Town Board was held in the Board Ilooai, Princes-street, on Afondav afternoon.

Present, Messrs. Jenkinson, Mollison, Switzer, and Hardy. Mr. Switzer in the chair.

The Clerk read the minutes of the previous meeting, which were duly ouiirmed.

The following correspondence was then read and submitted.

A leiter from Mr*. Dawsou, of the Melbourne Club Hotel, proposing a compromise in respect to the level of Manse-street.

The Board decided to adhere to the original plan. A letter from Mr. II- C. Hankard, drawing attention to a portion of Fillcul-street. It was resolved to refer this matter to the Inspector.

A letter from Mr. M'Carthy, in reference to the removal of a bank of earth opposite his premises inJHigh-street, aud offering to contribute the usual proportion of the cost.

Resolved that Mr. McCarthy be informed that the Board would treat with him when the contractor had reached his part of the street.

A letter from Messrs. Driver, Maclean & Co., applying for an exclusive license in respect to new cattle yards, which the applicants proposed to construct in the North Ease Valley. The consideration of the matter was postponed to the next meeting.

The memorial read last meeting from the inhabitants of Cumberland-street, askinj for certain improvements, and offering 1 to contribute £40, was brought up for consideration.

It having appeared that the cost of the works contemplated would cost about £180, it was decided that on the memorialists subscribing £60 the work would be proceeded with.

A letter from the Piovincial Government, intimating that the construction of the footpath opposite the Government buildings would be left to the Board.

A previous letter from Dr. Burns, complaining of certain encroachments upon his property in Clyi'e-st.ect, Water of Leith, was considered, and the Board decided that it was not liable. The encroachments complained of had resulted from natural causes.

The Clerl; stated that he had made arrangements with Mr. Barnes to fill up the lower part of High-street at Is. per yard.

The regulations for the quarries in MaclugganBtreet were read.

Tho adjourned motion of Mr. Moliison, in respect to the rescinding of the resolution imposing fines on the lessees of Municipal property at Waihola, lapsed for want of a seconder. Mr. Moliison desired it to be known that he had protested against the regulation, which he con.sideied unfair.

Mr. C.u-gilPs adjourned motion in respect to the appointment of an engineer, was postponed the mover not being present.

The Clerk was instructed to write to the Deputy-Superintendent, and state that if the Government did not push on v. itii the works in the Cutting the Board would undertake them.

After the passing of the. c accounts, the meeting was adjourned to Monday next.
