To the Editor of the Otago Witness.
Sin— lt is with great reluctance that I have again to address you on the subject of the Taranaki Relief Fund, but after allowing two issues of your paper to pass by without any response from the Treasurer, I now feel it my duty to call upon Mr. E. B. Cargill a second time to show cause why he refuses to answer ray appeal. I now say he has neither acted courteously or wisely in refusing to give any information as to these funds entrusted to his care, and now call upon him to show what funds he has in his possession, and when he intends fulfilling the wishes of the subscribers and the committee by appropriating them to the purpose for which they were collected. He must be aware of the repeated efforts 1 have made to wind up this (to me) most unpleasant affair. The last personal communication I had witli Mr. Cargill was sometime after the last committee meeting, when he asked me if I thought they (the Taranaki sufferurs) wanted it ? My reply was — ; but no, I will leave you to guess : I will not put on paper what evaporated in the heat of the moment. To waste no more time, if tlfis doe 3 not meet with a satisfactory reply, a meeting of the subscribers will be called in your next paper. 1 am, sir, &c. Geo. Lloyd.
