OTAGO HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

The third and last Exhibition for the season of the above Society was held in the Schoolhouse,' Dunedin, on Friday, the 24th May. The display was creditable to the growers, taking into consideration the liitcnessr of the season, and the havoc committed among the Brassica family by the blight. A new acquisition to this Show was the collection of Garden Seeds, shown by Messrs. Matthews and Fazakerly. It is but justice to the exhibitors of seeds, and likewise to the judges, to state that Mr. Matthews' collection was shown on ..plates, the other enclosed in bags, not shown operiby, but in greater number ; and likewise, in the case of the Ferns, the collection that obtained the first prize consisted of a few living plants, whereas Mr. Martin's was a collection of dried Ferns, expensively got up, and excellently arranged in a book made for the purpose. The Onions and Leeks shown upon this occasion were of far superior quality to any of our previous exhibitions. The collections of fruit were superior to any we have seen imported. Mr. Matthews' collections of Evergreen Shrubs, Fuchsias, and other flowering plants, were justly admired. Mr. George Millar, Moray Place, and Mr. William Jolly exhibited samples of Potatoes of extraordinary size. The judges upon this occasion were Messrs. Douglas, Jolly, and Stenhouse.
