The " Avonvale," from London, which had been anxiously looked for for sometime past, arrived at the Heads on Tuesday morning, having left Giavesend on the 7th April. The length of her passage, we understand, w rt s attributable to a succession of adverse winds and stormy weather which she expeiienced after passing the Downs. She has brought 22 passengeis, and a Imge cargo entirely for this place. A considerable quantity of goods was shut out as she was about to sail, in consequence of the vessel having previously been obliged to fill up with a quantity of stone.
The steamer " Pirate" went outside the Heads on Thursday afternoon, about 4 o'clock, and towed the " Avonvale "in to Driver's Point. About 7 o'clock on the s-ame evening, the " Pirate" sailed for Melbourne via the Bluff. Mr. Macandrew has proceeded in her this trip to Melbourne ; and we le.un that on his arrival there he intends bringing the "Queen " iiom Sydney to Melbourne, with the view of despatching her to Otago as speedily as possible. The " Piiate" is to go on the slip this time to be ovei hauled and painted, in accordance with the half-yearly piactice of the Steam Navi. galion Uoaid of Vietoiia.
