CHILI.

The following is an extract of a letter dated March 25 th, received by Mr. C. H. Manton, of Sydney, from a friend in Chili, and relating to the state of affairs in that place.

" The country is in an awful state of revolution ; a month ago the Opposition perty, without any trouble, took San. Felipe, but troops being sent from Santiago, the Government party recovered it again ; a great many were killed, and even women and children were sacrificed ; almost all the shops were broken open and robbed, and rape committed to a fearful extent. Talca, Copeago, and Coquimbo are in possession of the opposition party. It is reported that their forces amount to 3000 men, well equipped and armed, and having 20 cannons. On the 14th March they were met by the Government party, and had a desperate fight. It is said, that out of 1400 men of the Government party, only 300 escaped." The writer concludes by saying, "That this revolution will be very long. The Montaneros destroyed Aranco, Lota, Coronel, Narrainto, and other villages. I have been told by a neighbour of mine, who arrived a few days aftervirom Valparaiso, that there was not a ' single policeman or watchman to be seen, only a patrol of twelve men every night ; I have also been informed by another party that things were just the same in Santiago." 3i — Empire, July 6.
