We are glad to learn that the Jura has been got safely oft" the bamlspit without injury, and will proceed to Canterbury with the first fair wind.
The clipper schooner " Zephyr" was to sail from Sydney for this port on the 10th ult.
The baique, City of Melbourne, was advertised to sail from Sydney on the 2-ith uk. for Otago. The Caroline Elizabeth arrived at Melbourne on the 19th Nov. with the passengers of the ill-fated Eastern City. We learn that the Australian Steam Navigation Company have obtained the contract for the conveyance of the mails between Melbourne aud Wellington — S. M. Herald.
It is stated " that the P. & O. Company are safe to obtain the mail contract* to Australia, and that preparations are already being made for despatching the steamers Benaies and Sdlsette, each 1900 tons, and the Northam, 1600 tons. The route will be via the Mauritius.''
Lord Ashley. — This vesspl was waiting in Sydney the arrival of the Columbian, expected on the 20th ult., and was immediately to go alongside and take in the New Zealand mail, and sail without delay. Her route, as advoitised, xras from Sydney to Nelson, then to New Plymouth, Auckland, Wellington, Canterbury, and Otago. We may now look for her shortly.
A magnificent vessel, the Marlborough, worth at least £20,000, ship and cargo, and having about 30 hands on boaid, left the Tyne 12 months ago for China, and lias never since been heard of. Her owner is now claiming the insurance, and the families of the seamen have gone into mourning. There is no knowing w hat has become of the ship and crew. — Liverpool Daily Post, Aug. 18.
