THE WASTE LAND BOARD.
The Board met on Tuesday. Present — the Acting Chief Commissioner, and all the members.
Mr. M'Glashan brought before the Board the question as to the right of runholders to purchase land within their runs beyond their pre-emptive rights. It was resolved —
" That considering that by the Land Sales and Leases Ordinance, 1806, the public are debarred from purchase or occupation of lands within mns, it is not consistent with the interests of the public that such lands be alienated to runholders or other private indisiduals.''
With reference to a letter from Mr. R "Wilson, as to a license for Run 207, it was resolved —
" That the Board first ascertain whether the said run has been bona file stocked, and that the report of the Sheep Inspector, or an aflumation on honour of two respectable runholders, would be sufficient evidence of such being the case."
As to a dispute between Messrs. Saunders and Fulton, respecting Run 259, it was resolved —
" That Mr. Saunders' application does not extend beyond the Waipori ; the country is therefore adjudged to Mr. R. Fulton. Further resolved— That niv'ng to the decision of the Board of 2nd instant with lefeience to the boundaries of hundreds, that the runs adjacent ta the hundreds and to south of VVnipoii as far as the Clutha bp re-arrangpd by the Acting Chief Commi»sionei and Chief Surveyor, and brought before the Board for permanent approval.' 1
The Chief Surveyor stated that instructions had been given to Mr. Garvie to lay off a road line through the bush land in the North-east Valley.
A proposal by the Acting Chief Commissioner, that town sections reserved for road?, "where not required, should be thrown open for sale, was referred to a committee.
An application from Mr. M'Lean for an alteration of boundary was declined.
The Acting Chief Commissioner brought before the Board the necessity of ascertaining that the proper number of stock were on rims already licensed ; and it was referred to the Sheep Inspector and Acting Chief Comissioner.
The following amended resolution as to the extension of time for stocking ruus was agreed to: —
" That fur an extension of time to stock 50,000 arrps and under for 4 months, a sum of one hundred pounds be deposited •, and for an extension of time to stock 100,(100 acies and under, the sum of two hundred pounds must be deposited ; and that the Board refuse extensions for any longer period."
In order to facilitate the business of the Board, it was resolved —
" That applications for runs in any part of the Frounce may be made at the he.id office, in Dunedin, but that applications for runs west of the Mataura may be also made at the branch office, Invercargill. In case of two applications for the
same countiy, prioiily of dale and time to decide, j Applications for land under the Land Sales and Le iscs Ordinance will also be on the same footing. Applications for land within the hundreds east of the Mntaura must be made at Dunedin, and applications for land within hundreds west of the Mataura must be made at the Invercargill office." Adjourned.
