ATTRACTIVE ANNOUNCEMENT TO THE INHABITANTS OF DUNEDIN IN GENERAL, BUT TO COUNTRY SETTLERS IN PARTICULAR. J. R. H O O D, ® GUTTED 818, M© ©IB&IPSIB, MACLAGGAN STREET, (NEARLY OPPOSITE THE ROYAL HOTEL), DUNEDIN, WAS induced, from the Superior Quality of the Goods, to attend the Auction Sale of Mr, Sidey, who sold off his Entire Stock last month, and while narrowly watching its progress, and buying only when an opportunity occurred of Actually getting a Bargain, he secured Goods to the Amount of Several Hundred Pounds. Not professing to be a Capitalist, he must, to meet his liabilities, speedily convert these Goods into Cash, and experience has taught him that the best way of doing so is to Sell Cheap, and this he is determined to do in now commencing in Dunedin. As to his knowledge of the Goods purchased, he considers it but fair to state that for the hist FirTEEN Years he conducted a large trade at Home, where everything was sold for Men or Women's wear, /'from a Bonnet to a Boot or Shoe), and as, during that period, every article in the Stock waa bought by himself by personally Ashing the various manufacturing districts of England, Ireland, and Scotland, and having so recently left home, he submits that if he is not a judge he ought to be. In arranging his goods he has adopted the Home Principle of Marking upon every Article (however trifling) the Price of it in Plain Figures, from which no reduction whatever will he made, so that a Child or the most inexperienced will in all cases be served upon the same terms as the best judges. Having been informed that COUNTRY SETTLERS labour under great disadvantages from their ignorance of the Prices charged for Various Kinds of Goods, and being anxious to oblige all parties, knowing also that COMPETITION IS THE LIFE OF BUSINESS, he submits, for the satisfaction of the Public, the following PRICE LIST of Goods, to which he invites inspection and comparison. Buyers to a ■small amount will be expected to pay Cash, but he is quite willins to »11ow Respectable Settlers the same credit as he is allowed himself, and will take their Bill at Three months for all purchases above Five Founds. He will attend once a-week at the Post Office, and forward with Speed any Goods ordered as honestly, and with as much care and judgment, as if the parties had been on the spot themselves. As the DRAPERY BUSINESS will be more immediately under the management of Mrs. HOOD, it •will not at all interfere with his profession as TAILOR, to which he allots a separate Advertisement, and solicits the patronage of Gentlemen.
