MEETING AT WAREPA.

A Meeting of the inhabitants of Warepa and Kaihiku was held on the 31st ult., to consider an extract from the minute? of a meeting of the Waste Land Board, held on the 2Gth of March, which would have the effect of compelling one-half of the inhabitants of the district to purchase more land in order to secure the right to run cattle, as the proposed alteration and curtailment would throw them outside of the Hundred.

Extract from minutes of Waste Land Board meeting: —

" Resolved— That Mr. Kettle's case is one of considerable hardship, and that under these circumstances, the Board recommends his Excellency the Governor to alter the Boundaries of the Hundred in question, so as to include the surveyed lands only."

Proposed by Mr. Campbell, and seconded by Mr. James M'Niel—

" That this meeting considers the resolution of the Waste Land Board relative to the West Clutha Hundred, to be an infringement of its just rights, and resolves to memorialize the said Board to reconsider the same."

Moved by Mr. J. Somerville, seconded byMr. Gordon, and resolved unanimously — " That this meeting views with much distrust and dissatisfaction, a system of secret legislation, such as is represented by the resolution before it, which destroys vested rights and interests, without giving those interested in the issue an opportunity of being heard." Proposed by Mr. Somerville, and seconded by Mr. Toulraie — " That the proceedings of this meeting be published in the newspapers of the Province." C. H. Street, Chairman. Warepa, May 31, 1858.
