BITHOOR.

A large force is now at Bithoor, consisting of H.M.s 42nd and 93rd Highlanders, a troop of Horse Artillery, some Punjaub Cavalry and Infantry, and some Sappers. The latter are hard at work demolishing and blowing up all the defences and stronghold?, and draining all the wells about the place, as they are believed to contain an immense amount of treasure. The leaders of the Gwalior Force, on their return to Calpee, boasted that they had slain all our officers and nearly all our men, and that merely a few of the' latter were left in our entrenchment near Cawnpore, which was the only place that they had not completely destroyed. This gave occasion to great rejoicings, and a salute was fired in honour of the victory that had been achieved ! — Poona Observer, Jan. 6.
