"" . : - IN accordance with Clause 39 of the '" Roads Ordinance, 1856," Notice *'is hereby Given, that the Representatives' from the Green Island District Board of Road Trustees have intimated that it is their intention to pro-, pose a resolution or Order to the following effect, viz. : — That the Lines . of Road, in theGreen Island-District laid down as undermentioned on the Suburban Map, shall be shut up,' and the Map or Plan of Roads altered and amen ded accordingly : — Ist. Road Line commencing at the Southeast corner of Section 149, Green Island Bush, running in a North-easterly direction, and terminating at the South-east'corner of Section No. 67, Ocean Beach. 2nd. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN to the Ratepayers under the "Roads Ordinance, 1856," in the Town Road District, that the General Board of Road Trusteees for the Province of Otago have issued a Precept for the collection of a DISTRICT RATE of Sixpence per acre, payable on or before FRIDAY, the 27th day of November, 1857, to the undersigned, at his house in said district. JOHN ANDERSON, Collector. By the 29th clause of the "Roads Ordinance" it is enacted, that, "If any person shall refuse or neglect to pay any rate by this Ordinance authorised to be levied, for the space of thirty days after the same has become payable, and been demanded by. the Collector thereof by public general notice in the Government Gazette or a newspaper, there shall be added to the sum due at the rate of ten per centum thereof every year during which, or any part of which, the same remains unpaid ; and the Collector shall not accept of payment of the original sum without payment also of said additional rate ; and it shall be lawful for such Collector . and his assistants, by virtue of a warrant under the hand of the Resident Magistrate or any two Justices of the Peace, which they are hereby empowered to grant to enter into any part of the subjects assessed, and to levy the amount due, together with any reasonable expense incurred, by dis- . tress and sale of the goods and chattels therein or thereon ; and in case of the same not being levied by reason of the property assessed being unoccupied,, or any other cause, the arrears shall at any subsequent time be leviable in like manner by distress and sale of any goods and chattels which may be found in or upon the premises."
