TVTOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that by -Ll Ordinance, Session 6, No. 1, and his Excellency the Governor's Proclamation dated 25th June, 1857, any person who shall import, land, sell, or otherwise dispose of arms, gunpowder, shot, percussion caps, &c, without a License, in terms of the said Proclamation, is liable in a penalty of £500, besides other forfeitures. NOTICE is hereby Given, that in pursuance of the " Roads 1 Ordinance, 1856," MEETINGS of the persons liable to be rated for Roads within the recently proclaimed Road Districts of Port Chalmers and Invercargill, will be held, for the purpose of electing District Boards of Road Trustees at the times and places following : — PORT CHALMERS DISTRICT. The Meeting to be held at the premises of Mr. Taylor, in Port Chalmers, upon Wednesday the 2nd day of December, 1857, at 6 o'clock evening. INVERCARGILL DISTRICT. The Meeting to be held at the house of Mr. W. Lind, at Invercargill, upon Wednesday, the 2nd day of December, 1857, at 12 o'clock noon. By section 7th of said Ordinance, it is enacted that " every person of the male sex, and twentyone years of age and upwards, who is rated, or liable to be rated, for roads within any part of the Province, in virtue of that or any other Ordinance, shall be qualified to be elected a member of any District Board of Road Trustees." And by section 9 it is enacted that " the Electors assembled at every such meeting shall, by a majority of their number, appoint a Chairman, and make their elections of not less than three persons, qualified as aforesaid, to form the District Board of Road Trustees; and the state of the votes shall be ascertained by a show of hands, or in such other manner as, to the Chaiiraan may seem expedient ; and at the Meeting at which he is Chairman he shall be disqualified to be elected a Trustee, and shall have no vote except a casting vote in every case of an equality of votes ; and he shall declare the state of the votes to the Meeting, which declaration shall be final ; and shall forthwith make a true return *in writing of the names and designations of the persons elected, such return, to be made to the Clerk of the General Board of Trustees ; and in default of so doing sha|l forfeit and pay a penalty not exceeding five pounds."
