TX^HEREAS a Writ under the hand of " * His Honor William Cargill, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, .bearing date the Eleventh day of August, in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty-seven, and under the Public Seal of the Province of Otago aforesaid, hath been directed to me Alfred Chetham Strode, Esquire, Returning Officer'for the Town of Dunedin District of the said Province, requiring and commanding me to cause to be elected ' from and amongst the voters duly qualified for that purpose, freely and indifferently, and in manner and form by law prescribed, One Person to serve as a member for the Town of Dunedin District in the Provincial Council of the said Province, in place of William Henry Cutlen, Esquire, who has resigned his seat in the said Council. Now, therefore, I, the said Alfred Chetham Strode, Esquire, Returning Officer for the said Town of Dunedin District, do hereby, in pursuance of the said recited Writ, give notice that a Public Meeting of the electors of the said Town of Dunedin District will be holden in the Hall of the Mechanics' Institute, Dunedin, on Thursday the Twenty-seventh day of August inst., at 12 o'clock, noon, for the purpose of nominating One Person to serve as a member for the Town of Dunedin District in the Provincial Council of the said Province ; and in the event of a Poll being demanded for the Candidates, or any of them, such Polling shall take place on Friday, the Twentyeighth day of August inst., in the Hall of the Mechanics' Institute, Dunedin aforesaid, the voting at the above-named Polling Place to commence at ten o'clock in the morning of the said day, and to close at four o'clock in the afternoon of the said day.
