NOTICE, Province op Otago, New Zealand, TO WIT. WHEREAS a Writ under the hand of His Honor William Cargill, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, bearing date the Twelfth day of February, in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty-seven, . and under the Public Seal of the Province of Otago aforesaid, hath been directed to me Alfred Chetham Strode, Esquire, Returning Officer for the Eastern District of the said Province, requiring and ! commanding me to cause to be elected from and amongst the voters duly qualified for that purpose, freely and indifferently, and in manner and form by law prescribed, one person, to serve as a member for the Eastern District, in the Provincial Council of the said Province, in the place of Mr. James Adam, who has resigned his seat in the said Council. Now, therefore, I, the said Alfred Chetham Strode, Esquire, Returning Officer for the said Eastern District, do hereby, in pursuance of the said recited Writ, give notice that a Public Meeting of the Electors of the said Eastern District will be holden at the residence of Mr. John M'Gibbon, Caversham, near Dunedin, on Saturday, the 28th day of March, instant, at twelve o'clock, noon, for the purpose of nominating one person, to serve as a member for the Eastern District, in the Provincial Council of the said Province ; and in the event of a Poll being demanded for the Candidates, or any of them, such polling shall take place on Thursday, the 2nd day of April instant, at the residence of Mr. John M'Gibbon aforesaid — the voting at the above-named Polling Place to commence at any time after nine o'clock in the morning of the said day, and to close at four o'clock in the afternoon of the said day.
