A Preliminary Meeting was held in Dunedin A on the 29th September 1856, for the purpose of organising a Flockowners' Association, the object of which is to draw up such Rules and Regulations as may by experience be found most effectual to prevent the spread of disease among Sheep, and otherwise to protect the general interests of the Flockowners._ It was resolved that the present Scab Ordinance is totally inefficient for the object for which it was intended, and that public meetings be called of the Flockowners throughout the Province, in Dunedin, and the various districts, in order that measures be taken for preparing a new Ordinance, to be submitted at the next session of Council. Resolved, that in accordance with the foregoing Resolution, a public meeting of Flockowners be called to be held in Dunedin, on Monday the 13th October, in the Mechanics' Institution, at 4 p.m., to take into consideration the above and other matters connected with the Flockowners and Squatting interests generally, at which all parties interested are requested to attend.
