J. Burns George Shand James Fulton The shew of hands having been declared to be in favour of the three first-named candidates, a poll was demanded on behalf of Messrs. Shand and Fulton. The polling took place on the following day, and resulted as under :—: — Macandrew. . '28 Lee 24 Burns 23 Fulton 1G Sh.uul 1.5 The three first-named gentlemen were declared duly elected. Tokomairiro District. — The nomination of Candidates for this district took place on the 4th instant, when Messrs. J. Cargill and J. Dcwe were proposed. We understand that there was but one elector present beyond the candidates and their proposers and seconders, so that the whole of the eloquence expended upon the occasion was, we presume, addressed to the one neutral elector, who ought to feel highly honoured by the occasion. The shew of
hands was declared to be in favour of Mr. J. Cargill, and no poll being demanded, that gentleman was declared duly elected. At all the nominations except the one above referred to, there has been an average attendance of electors. Surely there must he great apathy on political subjects in the Tokomairiro.
