RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT. 10th July, 1855.

John Keggie, otherwise Thorburn, was charged with having been guilty of unlawfully discharging fhoarms without lawful cause in "a street or public place in the town of Diuiedin on Wednesday, the 4th instant, contrary to the provisions of the Constabulary Force Ordinance Session I. No. 0 (New Munster.)

The defendant having admitted the charge, the Resident Magistrate said, that as this was the first case of the kind brought before him, he should not inflict a fine but would merely make an order for payment of costs. His Worship, at the same time, intimated his determination to put a stop to such dangerous practices by inflicting the "full penalty in all future cases.

We believe the penalty is not less than 55., nor more than 205., for every offence.
