BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS. Wednesday, May 23.

The Commissioners under the Dunedin Public Lands Ordinance met pursuant to advertisement. Present — Messrs. Reynolds, Macandrew, Gillies, Cutten, M'Giashan, Purdie, Hill, and J. Anderson. Dr. Purdie in the Chair. The business before the Board was the consideration of the report of the Jetty Committee. The Jetty-keeper having resigned, and the attention of the Board'having been directed to a difficulty in collecting the toils, Mr. Macandrew proposed and Mr. Cutten seconded the following resolution :—: — " Having heard the statement of the Jetty Committee with reference to the present position of the Jetty, the Board resolve — That the Committee be directed to enclose the Jetty, and to erect a shed within the said enclosure, submitting the plans and estimates to this Board previous to taking any action thereupon : That the Committee be directed to engage a suitable Jetty keeper, and no goods to be taken off the Jetty until the dues are paid." Mr. Gillies proposed the following amendment, which was seconded by Mr. Reynolds : — " That the Jetty dues be levied henceforth from the boats or vessels landing or receiving goods, leaving the masters and owners to charge these dues against the private parties along with their freights ; and for the better care of goods a shed should be erected on or near to the Jetty ; and direct the Jetty Committee to lay plans, specifications, and estimates before a future meeting." The amendment was lost, and the original motion carried. An application was received from Mr. "W. H. Mansford for leave to erect a bonded store on a portion of the beach near the survey office, included in the public reserves. An application was also received from Messrs. Macandrew & Co. for leave to erect a bonded store and jetty on the beach, near the present jetty. After some discussion, in which a doubt was expressed by the majority of the Board as to their powers under the Dunedin Public Lands Ordinance to grant leases to the applicants, the matter was referred to the committee for the management of the "Water Frontages, the names of Messrs. M'Glashan and Gillies being substituted on that committee for Messrs. Reynolds and Macandrew, those gentlemen having an interest in the matter. The Board adjourned until Wednesday next.
