(From the Provincial Government Gazette.) DUNEDIN PUBLIC LANDS ORDINANCE. Passed 10th March, 1854. Provincial Secretary's Office, Dunedin, 18th July, 1554. HIS HONOR THE SUPERINTENDENT directs the following Correspondence to be published for the information pf the Board of Commissioners and satisfaction of the public. By His Honor's Command, William H. Reynolds, Provincial Secretary. Superintendent of Otago to the Colonial Secretary, of date the loth March, 18<34. Sir, — In reply to your despatch as per margin, enclosing Memorial of the Members of the Provincial Council of Otago appealing against the appropriation of Moray Place — a public reserve in the. Town of Dunedin — as the site of a proposed Episcopal Church, and calling upon me to furnish His Excellency administering the Government with my observations thereon. I have the honor to enclose the Otago Ordinance, Session I. No. o, as containing, in its preamble and spction 15, my deliberate opinion upon the subject^ and the only further observation I could submit to His Excellency is, that any building erected in the opening of Moray Place would be justly regarded by the proprietors of Dunedin as a similar proceeding at home would be regarded in respect of Moray Place, Edinburgh, or St. James' Square, London. The Memorial is herewith returned. I have the honor, &c, W. Cargill, Superintendent. The Colonial Secretary to the Superintendent of Otago, of date the Ist June, 1854. Sir, — I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your Honor's despatch dated 15th March last, (received on the 25th ult.) relative to the Memorial of the Otago Provincial Council against the appropriation of Moray Place — a public reserve in Dunedin — as the site of a proposed Episcopal Church ; and in reply, His Excellency the Officer administering the Government begs to inform your Honor that His Excellency will not consent to the appropriation against which the Memorialists appeal ; and has given directions that Moray Place' be retained as a public reserve, in strict conformity with the purpose for which it was originally intended.
