MACANDREW & Co. will Sell by Auction, at their Store, Manse Street, on Monday the 15th instant, Sundry Goods, consisting of Blue Serge Shirts, Mole and Cord Trowsers, &c. &c. &c, short landed per " Stately" and " Constantine," thrown on ship by Consignees. MESSRS. J. MACANDREW & Co. have received instructions to Sell by Auction at their Store, Manse Street, a number of Su- | perior-bred COWS, HEIFERS, and BUL- { LOCKS. Further particulars will be duly advertised. N.B. — Parties desirous of availing themselves of this Sale for the disposal of Cattle, will please to forward particulars of the Stock next week. TALLOW-ELECTORS,— His Honor the -*- Superintendent has prorogued the Sittings of the Provincial Council, and has deemed it proper to preface it by a public attack on the motives and actions of myself and other Members of Council, with the view, no doubt, of causing us to resign our seats at the Council Board; and, like Cato of old, lm dictum has gone forth, " Carthage must be destroyed" — " Delenda est Carthago." Unfortunately, the bait has taken, and one Member at once placed his resignation in the hands of the Superintendent, and whose resignation is likely to be followed by others. So far as regards myself, if I had consulted my own feelings after his Honor's virulent Address, I would have adopted the same course. But, Fellow-Electors, my course appeared ""clear. You who, along with myself, hold on some vital points antagonistic views to those of the Superintendent and his zealous partizans have reposed in me a trust which, under present circumstances, I do not feel called upon to resign. If you, however, who placedme,in the honourable position of your Representative in the Provincial Council — notwithstanding the greatest exertions of a CLIQUE whose desire is to obtain that despotic power which they all along have been decrying, and whose acts I believe to be injurious to the Province — think it to be my duty, under the peculiar circumstances in which the Council have now been placed by the Address of his Hanor, to resign that trust, I shall do so at once. His Honor having stated he intended to give his Address publicity, you, fellow-Electors, will be enabled to judge for yourselves of the justness of the unwarrantable attack made by the Superintendent. Electors, I embrace this opportunity of congratulating you on our present position. When you placed me in the position of your Representative, it was deemed I and others should have to contend with an overwhelming majority in Council. Such has not been the case. | The force of truth has done much ; and, if our principles have not triumphed, the crotchety notions of Wakefieldism have at least been thwarted. I am, your obedient Servant, Ed. M'GLASHAN. HOUSES TO BE LET. I THESE Two DWELLING-HOUSES, situated in Rattray Street, Dunedin, belonging to the Intestate Estate of the late William i Underhill.
