NOTICE. npilE Superintendent of the Province of JL Otago begs to inform the Members of Council, the Electors, and general community of the Province, that he has taken the first opportunity of a despatch mail for convening the Council at the earliest practicable date. He subjoins a copy of the Proclamation (which requires to be issued in the Government " Gazette") and he has guarded against the possible removal of the seat of Government and publishing office to Aucklnnd, by sending another Proclamation, with a date for assembling of the Council suited to the greater distance of the place of publication. "\XTHEREAS by an Act passed in the Partt liament holden in the 15th and 16th year 1 * of the reign of Her Majesty Queen Victoria, cap. 72, intituled •' An Act to grant a Representative Constitution to the Islands of New Zealand," it was enacted that certain Pro- I vipces be thereby " established in New Zea- " land ;" that for each of the said Provinces so established there shall be a Superintendent and a Provincial Council ; and that the said Superintendent and the members of the Provincial Council of each such Province shall be elected in puch manner as in and by the said Act of Parliament is provided in that behalf. i And Whereas, in pursuance of the said Act of Parliament, I, the said William Cargill, Esquire, have been duly elected Superintendent of the Province established by the said Act of Parliament as the Province of Otago, and a j Provincial Council for the said Province of i Otago has also been duly elected. And Whereas, by the said Act of Parliament, it is enacted that " it shall be lawful for " the Superintendent" (of each Province established as aforesaid), " by Proclamation in the " Government Gazette, td fix such place or " places within the limits, of the Province, and " such times for holding the first and every " other session of the Provincial Council, as he " may think fit, and from time to time, in manner " aforesaid, to alter and vary such times and I " places as he may judge advisable, and most I " consistent with general convenience." Now, THEREFORE, I, the Superintendent of the Province of Otago aforesaid, in pursuance of the authority by the said in part recited Act of Parliament in me vested, do hereby fix, proclaim, and declare, that the first session of the Provincial Council of the Province of Otago aforesaid shall be holden in the Town of Dunedin, in the said Province, on Saturday the Fourteenth day of January next, at Ten o'clock j in the forenoon. And in fun her pursuance of the authority in me the said Superintendent vested as aforesaid, I do hereby fix, proclaim, i and declare, that evciy other Session of such i Provincial Council shall be holden in Dunedin aforesaid at the hour of Ton in the forenoon of j the Fourteenth day of Januarj in each year . during the continuance of such Council, or un- i til, by proclamation under my hand in the Go- [ vernment Gazette, I shall alter and vary the | times and places of meeting of the said Council.
