NOTICE. Province of Otago to wit. WHEREAS a Writ, under the hand of His Excellency Sir George Grey, Knight Commander of the most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over the Islands of New Zealand, &c., &c, &c, bearing date the Seventeenth day of June, in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty-three, and under the Public Seal of the Islands of New Zealand aforesaid, has been directed to me, Alfred Chetham Stiode, Esquire, as Resident Magistrate and Principal Returning Officer for the Province of Otago, requiring and commanding me to cause to be elected by and from amongst the Voters duly qualified for that purpose, freely and indifferently, and in manner and form by law prescribed, one person to serve as Superintendent of the Province of Otago. Now, theeefore, I, the said Alfred Chetham Strode, Esquire, Resident Magistrate and Principal Returning Officer for the Province of Otago, do hereby, in pursuance of the said recited Writ, give notice that a Public Meeting of the Electors of the Province of Otago will be holden at the Court-House, in Dunedin, on Tuesday, the Sixth (6th) Day of September next,-at Eleven o'clock in the forenoon, for the purpose- of nominating one person to serve as Superintendent for the said Province ; and, in the event of a 2?oll being demanded for the Candidates, or any them, such polling shall take place on Monday the Twelfth (12th) day of September next, for the Town of Dunedin and the Dunedin Country Districts, at such Court-House aforesaid, and at the following additional Polling Places for the Dunedin Country District — namely : at the residence of Thomas Gillies, Esquire, Tokomairiro Plain, and at the residence of" John Jones, Esquire, at Matainaka, near Waikouaiti — the voting at the abovenamed Polling Places to commence at any time after Nine o'clock of the said day, and to close at Four o'clock in the afternoon of the said day.
