To the Editor of the Otago Witness.
> Sih, — In justice to myself I cannot allow the letter which appeared in your journal of the 11th inst. to remain unanswered ; and as the writer states,. " It is proper the public should know why he was refused refreshment,' 1 beg to inform your correspondent, and that portion of the public who favour me with their patronage, that it is my earnest desire to accommodate the parties who frequent the Royal Hotel agreeable to their several .pursuits. The writer of the letter states, that " he visited' the Hotel for the purpose of transacting business with the gentleman who accompanied him foir that purpose';" and he was politely informed that he being then in the public room, there were two other rooms for his convenience, with stationary at his disposal, if he would be pleased to adjourn to either of them. Under these circumstances, I trust the public will appreciate the convenience of private rooms for those who have private business, instead of 'their being compelled to intrude their business matters before others who attend the public room for refreshment only. I beg further to state, that, in addition to the before-mentioned rooms, I have other comfortableapartments for the accommodation of those 1 the nature of whose calling prevents their appearing in such neat attire as they might otherwise present themselves. — I am, &c, CHARLES HOPKINSON.
