NELSON.

We beg to call attention to the prospectus of a company which has been formed to work the recently discovered coal at Massacre Bay. The Pakawau Coal and Mining Company represents two companies which had previously been formed for working the coal at Pakawau, Massacre Bay — the Nelson Coal Association, and the Cook's Straits Mining Company — which now are united under the above name. Although so formed, upwards of 1 100 shares have been already taken, and we hope in a few days to see the required number of 2000 taken, to enable the Company to commence its opera- j tions. Tii 8 quality of the coal is so unquestion- i ably good, that it is difficult to conceive any undertaking which can hold out greater promise to shareholders than this Company does, | i as the fuel will be in immediate request in I ; every settlement of New Zealand, to say nothing \ of the shipments which will be made to India 1 and China in the vessels which have hitherto proceeded to those countries in ballast. — ExAMINER, April 24 th. i Presentation of a Horse to the Rev. T. { D. Nicholson. — On Wednesday last a few of the friends of the Rev. T. D. Nicholson, Presbyterian Minister, as a mark of esteem, presented that gentleman with a horse. A breakfast was provided by Mr. Taylor, of which several of the friends of the reverend gentleman partook. — Ibid. We learn from a private source (says the " Wellington Independent") that a rich vein of copper ore has been discovered near the banks of the Maitai, and within a short distance of Nelson. An application has been made to Government for a lease of the land, as the ore has been found on Crown Land, and is apparently abundant. We understand the fact of the discovery having been made is confirmed by Major Richmond.
