It was stated at the late meeting of the Evangelical Alliance, by the Rev. Dr. Urwiek, that it was a remarkable fact that the Roman Catholics were wont to magnify their numbers, and thereby to magnify their importance ; and as a specimen of this, that in the " Catholic Directory" for the present year the number of Roman Catholics in Ireland was stated to be " 7,000,000," about 500,000 more than there ai*e persons in the country ! the last census returns having shown that Ireland only contained an aggregate of 6,sls,794.inhabitants, being a decline of 1,659,330 upon the returns made ten years ago. .«, . .
