milE UNDERSIGNED respectfully request ± a PUBLIC MEETING of the Inhabitants of Dunedin, to be held in the School-Room on j Monday Evening, the 26th April, at 6 o'clock, | for the purpose of considering certain Roads in ! connection with the approach of -winter. I Ist, In regard to Footpaths made by voluntary assessments of money and labour ; to promote, as far as possible, the extension and im- j provement of the same ; and to take measures ibr the protection of all public Footpaths from ' the careless driving of catlle, and especially i from being ridden over by persons on horse- j back. j 2d, "With respect to £60 public money made | over and added to contribution in the North- ! East Valley early in the summer, on condition, ' among other things, that a sufficient footbridge vi as to he erected over the Wakari (Water of, Leith) ; to enquire what has been done in the I matter, and why it is that the footbridge is still i awanting. I 3d, With respect to £228 voted by the Legislative Council from the Otago revenue in July i 1851 for a Bridge in the centre of Dunedin, and levelling the approaches to it ; to enquire what steps have been taken in the matter/ and I why it is that the winter must needs he en- i countered with so much danger to life and property by all who frequent Dunedin. 4th, With respect to the piece of road form- [ ing the southern outlet from. Dunedin over a I swampy meadow, and for the improvement of | which a donation of £50 from funds in the I hands of Sir George Grey was added to a similar amount of contribution in money and labour, and the whole applied under direction of the ! Bench of Magistrates in the summer of 1851, i so as so make it sufficient (until metalled) for summer use (the hill being used for drays and cattle in winter) ; to enquire by what means the summer road was so utterly torr> up in the following winter ; also whether any remedy has \ been proposed ; and if so, the causes of its j failure, with a view to the suggestion of other means. sth, With reference to the surplus revenue now in the hands of the Sub-Treasurer, amounting, it is understood, to a considerable sum ; to consider the propriety of petitioning His Excellency the Governor-in-Chief, to the effect that said funds may be immediately expended upon Roads and Bridges under the direction of 1 a Board to be elected hy the Settlers.
