CHRISTCHURCH

On Saturday His Excellency Sir George Grey paid a visit to this place, accompanied by Mr. Godley ; he visited Mr. Brittan's and Mr. Tanerpd's farms below " the Bricks," and also proceeded through Riccarton and Ham farms f to Mr. Bray's estate. His Excellency expressed great surprise and gratification at the progress that has been made.

Mr. A. Clifford has succeeded in driving over about 1,300 ewes from the Wairau district, only losing one on the road. Two other parties of " overlamleis" are reported to be close on bis heels o;>e of which is headed by E. .T. Lee, Esq., \wio lately made so successful a journey through tho mountains.

On Ti'cday four quarter-acre sections, fronting on a principal street near the Market Place } were sold by auction at prices averaging'upwards of £30 each section.
