OTAKI WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

AN INTERESTING MEETING Mrs. Syrnott welcomed new members and visitors to the December meeting of the Otaki Women’s Institute. After the singing of the National Anthem, routine business was dealt with. Members ' were notified that on the second Friday in each month, tho Patriotic Committee undertook to supply cakes for the soldiers in camp. Any contributions may be left during the morning of that day at any of the depots: Mr. Rule’s, Otaki Railway; the Borougli Council offices; and Mr. O'Brien’s store at Tasman Beach. It was unanimously decided to hold a garden party in Mrs. H. Taylor's grounds during the last week in January.

"Miss Manz gave a v,pry interesting demonstration on the making of dainty glass trinket boxes and of articles in pewter.

The competitions resulted: —Seed Cake: Mrs. Shearer 1, Mrs. Nairn 2, Mrs. Tews 3. Presentation Box of Flowers: Miss Manz 1, Mrs. Jensen 2, Mrs. Tews 3. Best Bloom: Mrs. Reynolds I,' Mrs. Smith 2, Mrs. Mathie 3.

The hostesses were Mesdames W. Taylor, Empson, Dulfin, Wells and Ralph. Before the meeting closed, members were reminded that nominations for the 1940 committee must be submitted at the February meeting.
