At Vicksburg, Mississippi, a strange tragedy cost the lives of at least 13 motorists, WHO were drowned in a clear creek oayou, where floods had carried away a heavilytravelled bridge. One after another nine motor-cars plunged from trie bridge into the swollen creek. Eight persons managed to swim to wvfoty, but most were trapped in the sunken vehicles. One driver swam half-a-mile and then ran back and halted other automobiles approaching the deadly abyss.
