LAND TO £BO AN ACRE.
TARANAKI DAIRY FARMS NEW PLYMOUTH, March 28. There has been considerable movement in farm properties in North Taranaki, three dairy farms having changed hands at 280 an acre or more. Confidence in the future of the dairy industry is indicated by the fact that nearly all the properties sold have been dairy farms. A notable deal was the 51-acre property of Mr. J. E. Blvde, one of the province’s model farms and easily the highest butterfat producing farm in North Taranaki, and one of the highest in the Dominion, which was sold for £BO an acre. The farm was purchased by Mr. Blyde at £6O an acre 15 years ago, when butterfat was returning as much as Is Sd a pound. The price of £'o per acre js not the highest that has been paid for land in North Taranaki this season, for two Beil j Block farms of about 40 or 50 a icwere sold at £c2 and £S4 respectively, j TENDENCY TO LOWER PRICES POSITION IN THE MANAWATU. , Although it is stated that there has ' been considerable activity !r: the mar- j ket for farming properties in the Tara- • naki province, a leading land agent who , was spoken to regarding the position in j the Manawatu district was inclined to be sceptical of the reported boom in the northern area. It was his opinion that, if anything, the price for farms in this district was I tending to lower levels. That applied j to both sheep and dairying country. ' City property, on the other hand, was • changing hands fairly frequently. It j was possible to say, he considered, that ; practically no farming land was being bought around Palmerston North at tho : present time. i
