HOT WATER BAGS.

There are several points to be-ob-served when using hot water bags for children, viz.:—

(1), See that the bag is completely and securely covered with some woollen material.

(2) Place the bag beneath the under blanket, so that the child cannot possibly touch it with any part of his body, feet, or hand.

(1!) Refill the bottles every four hours at least, so as to keep the temperature of the bed fairly even. Cold bottles reduce the temperature if left in the bed.

The water for liot bottles or rubber bags should be used when it has just gone off the boil. To fill the rubber bags, pour in water through a funnel, or very' slowly from a kettle directly into the bag, until two-tliirds full. Expel the air by compressing the top half of.the bag. •Screw on the stopper at the same time. Hold the bag upside down for a moment to be sure there is no leakage. Replace cover and fasten securely'.

To fill hartbenware bottles-, warm bottle and three-quarters fill it with water. Screw on. the top, taking care that tile washer is in .good condition and in the right position. Cover securely.

Remember that serious burns and scalds can.be caused by careless use of hot water bottles or bags, for they are out of sight and the damage may not be discovered for several hours, by which time it is probably serious. When not to be refilled the bags should be bung up to drain and dry. When quite dry screw the cap on loosely, leaving a little air in the bag to keep the sides separated. Keep in a dry' cupboard.
