OTAKI STATE SCHOOL.
COMMITTEE MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Qtaki State School Committee was held on Monday night. Present: Dr. Milne (in the chair), Miss Leu; Messrs Allan, Twist, Taylor, Jenkins, Thomson, Nicolson, Hanson (secretary), and Dempsey (headmaster). The matter of ground improvement was considered and it was decided to accept a tender conditionally, viz., slight alterations to be . made. It was decided to meet on Monday night and further consider the quesfion. A letter was read relative to the National Dairy Show at Palmerston, offering concessions ■to school children .travelling in numbers.—Received. Mr. Dempsey reported that the water heaters were now in good order and working satisfactorily. He asked that attention be given to the tap at the bubble fountain, and also reported that Mr. Gillespie had generously given two posts for tlxe basket-ball ground. He regretted that the school football team was unable to play in the Austin ban'ner competition, being unable to get a team of sufficient strength, but competitions had been started among the lads for cups given by the -Herbert Smith- Trust.—lt was decided to have 'the'bubble tap attended to, and to send a letter of thanks to Mr, Gillespie for his gift. It was deeided to invite tenders for. fhe removal of old latrines. Dr. Milne reported that meetings had been,held in reference to the High /School but suggested that the matter be held in abeyance.—Agreed to. The headmaster reported that hot cocoa would be supplied to the children this week.
Messrs Allan and Twist were appointed visiting committee for the fiionth.
