HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL.
CHAIRMAN RE-ELECTED. Councillor B. R. Hoggard was reelected chairman of tho Hutt County Council at the annual meeting on Wednesday, The chairman mentioned that thirtysix schemes of subdivision had been approved, involving upwards of 1200 new sections, each of which represented a potential ratepayer. The largest schemes were in the Taita, Epuni Hamlet and Paraparaumu beach- districts, and a large scheme had recently been submitted in connection with lands at Wainui-o-mata, including a large tunnel for access, and this matter was now under consideration. The number of. building permits issued was 273, with a total value of *£185,401, compared with the previous ,ycar, when 205 permits were issued /with a value of £64,651, the increase ibeing accounted for to the extent of /approximately £95,000 by the election iof St. Patrick’s College, for wkich-tko Council would not receive any rates.
