HINTS POR RECITERS. In view of the elocutionary competitions to be held at Otaki next month the following should be of interest: — Mr." Byron Brown, the elocutionary judge, while discussing with a representative some of the more frequent mistakes of competitors, enumerated the following hints:— Don't drag the final consonant of the preceding word on to.the initial vowel Of the word following. Rhythm is the preservation of the music and the : liJt of the metre. In rverse, and all forms of metrical structure, the rhythm should not be neglected.'-''." "'"' "\'' : - take a, falling inflection at any pause, until the sense is complete. Bring out the words that arc important for the .genera! interpretation, Words have colour. By pitch, stress, tone and modulation, words are coloured until they bceame things of beauty. Don't stress prepositions and conjunctions'; they arc unimportant words merely used for joining words or sen-, teucos together. ..They should be more imagined than expressed. :
