) OXAKI V. SHANNON. This match was played at Otaki on a grass-matting wicket. Otaki won the ,toss and began to bat about ten minutes to three, and by iive o'clock had made 200 for five wickets, when the innings was closed. Atmore had bad luck in being run out when he was just nicely set. His score included four boundaries. Sievers hit hard for his (52, notching ten fours and one six. S. Simcox got three fours and two sixes, and MacDonald and D. D'Ath. opened out on the bowling, the former getting four fours and a six, and D'Ath live tourers off about three overs. Only three of the Shannon team scored, Kearns securing the fiue bowling average of .four wickets for one run. At six o'clock Shannon followed on, and were all out-for 67 a few minutes before time. S. Simcox secured tho bes: average with five wickets for three runs, including the "hat trick," the first being bowled, and the next two consecutive batsmen being caught behind the stumps by Rhodes. B. Ryder made a brilliant catch at point, as the ball was travelling quite fast wide of him when he threw out his left hand and the ball stuck in it. O'CONNOR CUP. ~ The first match played fof- some years for the valuablo cup given by Mr. J. O'Connor, of Levin, took place at Otaki domain on Saturday when the holders—Otaki Native College boys—were challenged by the boys of the Otaki State School. The Native lads, bigger, and with more experience, retained the cup although their young opponents xmt up a plucky fight. College went to the crease first, and wore not disposed of till the score reached 58. Hupa Metera, by line batting, scored no less than 34. A nice ball by Nieolson finally removed his bails. Bevan made 11. Nieolson was the most successful bowler, securing five wickets. Webster also bowled well. Otaki t State School's total in the first innings reached.•'■26 only, Utiku being lop scorer with 7. Met era, Nuuia, and Te Hana all bowled well. The school followed on and did much better, taking the score to 41. Of this number Nieolson made 19, the only doublefigure scorer. Metera secured five wickets.. Scores:-^

The College boys have held the cup for quite a number of years, and Mr. Wills, in a true sporting spirit, decided that better competition Would be forthcoming ifi matches >yere played between the State, Schools of- the district.
