TRAINING MIDWIVES.
GOVERNMENT PEEML3SION TO BE SOUGHT AGAIN. At yesterday's meeting of the l'almerston North Hospital Hoard it was decided to make further representations to the Government that the I'almerston North district maternity home be made a training school for midwives and that the help of the member for the district be enlisted to this end. The decision '.'.'tis the outcome of a letter from the nurses .and midwives registration board' which stated thai it had considered the'matter of approving the l'almerston North district maternity home as a training school for liddwives and that it held there had to.-, been sufficient time to decide whether die institution would be able to provide sufficient material and generally supply tlie standard of training required for midwives. The registration board decided that the approval given for the training of maternity nurses should standi and that the matter of permitting the training of midwives would be reviewed in a year's time. Members were nut a; all sutislle.l with the communication and unanimously decided to lake the steps mentioned.
