The match should be vary interesting and good hockey should be seen as Ruahine are the preI sent New Zealand champions, and the Manawatu representatives defeated 'them by three goals to. one at the sporlsgrounds two weeks ago. MANAKAU DEFEAT OTAKI. Despite the fact that the Otaki .Club had a good chance of winning tiie shield and championship it mustered only seven girls—six for a time—on Wednesday, on its own ground, to meet Manakau. Such a thing does not do the club justice. Although thus handi- . capped the girls put up a good light and for a time had Manakau well pressed. Then came a reverse and Mana- ' kau, breaking through, scored two goals, one by the foolish play of an opposing player who threw her stick at the ball. Otaki lost likely chances at goal through off-side play. The second half was evenly contested and both sides, in turn, put in good play. Several shots at goals were taken, and -Miss Hawea, for Otaki, scored, making the game, 2 —l, in favour of .Manakau. Messrs Parker and W. Ralph were referees, TE HORO FORFEITS. Te Horo was unable to raise a team on Wednesday and consequently forfeited to Ruukuwa.
