A picture which has been very highly spoken oi botli in England and America is ‘‘The Great Impersonation,’ 1 ’ in which James Kirkwood plays a dual role —an English baronet and a German who has been banished to German East Africa. The story is by E. Phillips Oppenhcim. The censors in Australia have changed the title of Carter de Haven’s “Twin Beds” to “A Sleepless Night,” despite the fact that the stage version toured Australia under the original title of “Twin Beds.” H. G. Wells, the English author and moralist, declares the picture palaces to be the sanctuary of the heavy-laden toiler, the home of the poor man’s drama and a fulfilment of “The Law and the Prophet ’ ’ —man does not live on bread olone. An American firm has brought a number of German films, including a serial. This serial is puzzling them, because it is released in episodes, each taking over an hour to screen. Clara Kimball Young is going into vaudevdle. William Duncan describes how he got a Girdling scene in a serial, “fn one particular instance it was required that a gang of Mexicans chase me in order to secure a valuable paper. Experience has taught me that frequently extra people when supposed to roughly handle a leading man in pictures, show a trace of timidity. In order to spur them on I called them together and told them I had a five-dollar gold piece loiicealea on my person, and the one who got it could keep it. By the time the scene was finished I was absolutely in rags and tatters.” An American magazine says “We wonder if any of the stars own the houses,in Hollywood (Los Angeles) before which they have their piictures taken for publicity purposes. Considering the salaries they are supposed to earn they should own them. Vaudeville is very popular in the States at present. Francis Bushman with his wife and partner Beverly Bayne are doing good work in this form of entertainment. “Get-Rick-Quick Wallingford,” has been filmed again. It was filmed about three years ago by Metro. The second screening is by the Cosmopolitan Company. It is not generally known that, off the screen Shirley Mason is Mrs Bernard Burning.
