POACHING BY MOTOR CAR.

For some time considerable ' appre- \ hension has been felt by owners and - tenants 9f deer forests in certain areas of .the district, of - Lochafoer,Scotland, at the frequent raids which - have been organised by; f poachers who use motor cars and portable headlights. The. modus operandi, generally consists in .sending out a scout, in. the afternoon, whose duty it is to locate deer grazing «sxot - far from the highway, and, after dark, -motor cars proceed along the road; and, when the scout gives information as t 0 the position* of the deer, portable headlights are detached. The- deei\ - are s£alked,Cand the full glare of the / lights directed upon ' them,*, with tfco result that they are more or loss blinded, so that shooting into the hefcd -becomes 'easy. A regrettable feature of this "sort of poaching is 1 not only that^ it is carried, out at, times when both stags and hinds are' not in fit condition for human consumption but -because of the indiscriminate firing / many animals are 5 often Avounded and left to fend s for . themselves.
