TELEGRAMS BY MOTOR-CYCLE.
SPEEDING UP MESSENGER-BOYS \" Boy messengers on motor-cycles 9fe m futur c -"to be employed .by the British Post Office for- the {delivery pf telegrams. A big scheme on these lines is under consideration by the P;0. authorities, 1 and when brought into operation it is expected to effect a considerable speed-up m the delivery of messages. It is the intention of the Post Office to proceed' aY expeditiously as possible with the working-out of detailed 'schemes at appropriate towns and places. The extra allowance origin.ally propped for jpessencr boys was
•6d a day. This has now been "increased to 9d a day. The duties of the messengers , will be arranged on the basis of five hours • actual travelling a day. Several questions, such as the speed pf travelling and accidents, have yet be cpnsidered. It is recognised that Post Office telegraph'boys rushing «n their motor "bikes" along prq\vded roads and streets might conceivably add a new terror to traffic.
