SCOTT'S CAP SCHOOL CONCERT
3 »— The annual school concert m the Scott's Gap Hall last Friday was well 3 attended, £7 profit being made for 1 the school funds. The children pro--5 vided a first-class programme of items and Mr Ritchie, chairman, moved a vote of .thanks to them for their efforts and to Miss Heenan, teacher, for her good work and Mrs Ridder for so ably assisting with the 1 . musical part. The ladies of the dis- ■ trict dispensed a dainty supper, after which dancing was enjoyed to music provided by Mr and Mrs Ridder, , Messrs King and Gibb, while Mr A. . Saunders acted as M.C. y The programme opened with a 2 chorus by all the pupils, song by Std. .2 girls, Re. citations by P.Johnston, j J, Brown, B. Sheddan, M. Iremonger . C; Taylor, B. Johnston; Duets oy j Gladys and Alex. Coster, Mavis and Elvina Ridder ; Songs and games by the Tiny Tots ; Shanty Songs by the B boys; Farmyard song by pupils ; Im--6 possible drill by ( boys and Maori Haka t and Poi Song by boys and girls. c After the interval an entertaining' play "Dick Whittington" was ably staged' by the pupils, the audience deriving a great deal of pleasure from the pore trayal of the characters by : the juvea nile amateur artists. The characters c were played as follows : Dick— A Tay. t lor, Smut__C. Brown,- Alice— E. Ride der, Rosa— G. Cook, Mary— M. Shecls dan, Cook — M. Coster, Kitchen Maid : l — M. Iremonger, Captain— J. Taylor, Emperor— B. Price, Bodyguard— A. Price and A. Coster, Old Woman--(1 Gladys Coster. The singing of "God ,Save the King" brougnt a pleasant s evening to" a close. d , - : « ■ ( - necessary dog collars from L. J. Parmenter provided tney were same _ sample as provided to . the County. The Clerk was directed to give __. notice to all raepayers owing iover- ' due raes, to pay, and, failing that, ' legal proceedings for recovery be ' taken. The Chairman reported the dance on Election night had netted £4, 19s ' . 4d, which amount had been used to ' paint the inside, of the Town Hall . premises. Mr Scatter considered the outside d woodwork of the Hall was more -n need of attention, as some of the sashes showed signs of decay. The Chairinani said a further effort "m the new year may result m enough being < secured to have this work done for the benefit of ratepayers. V It was resolved that the surface- . man be directed to clean the Main ;- Street block, between. '- \ ; Accounts, £199 8s 6d , Unemployed, 5 £301 Is 2d'general, £122518s 6d gallery loan and £1 ,3s Domain account 2 were passed.. > i LOAN FOR* UNEMPLOYED WORK The Chairman (indicated that, no i matter what they did' for the Unem- . ployed the Board was called "upon, to .. find finance for material, tools, cartage, etc., * and it was using ..too'- .._: much of th© funds), which, .'' with a smaller income, 'were being . impaired. Practically £100 had been found to date and it was essential to raise a short dated Loan to cover this cost and so balance the accounts. The new regulations allowed for them to be. done at a small cost; y. Mr jMcCullddh askjed Jf all . work had to be indicated before the Loan was- secured and proper plans drawn up.— The Chairman said if the Loans Board did not sanction tne Loan and too many residents ; objected^ all Unemployed , work cosiing anything to the Board at all would' have to stop.
