» Nightcaps Juniors visited Orepuki ■he on Saturday to be defeated br the he home-side, 12 points to 0. The ground isi was, wet aud the ball greasy, causing *s, faulty handling by both si;!es. Orets puki forwards proved too* strong for e- the visitors, and indications are that Id they will take a lot of beating for the re flag. Mr Weir wa-s referee, y, Muir and Klemick, fprwards an.d le Burgess and Dempster played best for n- Nightcaps.
»>" Ohai 0, beat Otautau 3. i- " ■ This match on the local ground aty tractcd considerable attention, an even ( game being witnessed mr!er ideal y conditions. Hard play characterised " the game from start to finish/- the L - younger and lighter local forwards -more than holding their own but the e Otautau backs haying a rlay off, and, » other than Buxtoti, who played a • great game, they played' indifferently. e Clark was reasonably safe- but was overshadowed by his vis-a-vis Wilson, ,• while Gonley showed much improvc- . ment on his game against Nightcaps, s Niehbl, as first five-eight for Obai. did > good work, 'and it is unfortunate for his Club as woll as the Representative
team that lie Jeav«s this week /or Australia. O'Hallonm is : pnlv a shsclo^ of his old self as half-back. -Jno. Ferguson made some nice breaks am: was solid on defence^, while Tonilin, as centre, ienproves Black and White attack. Kitto and 11. Ferguson on the wings played solid i?arm.:but few pas-sing rushes were comph ted to ( allow tlie best to -be seen, of these players. L. Wilson played a fine g;-inc at full-back. Ces. Mills locked the serum well and shows signs -of .returning- to his best form. Fordyce and McGregor were the best of the other forwards. Ballock is a grafter but still requires coaching in the finer points of thoi game.. All the Otautau, forwards worked well against their heavier and more experienced opponents, Hardy, D. Hope and A. S.mellio being the best. Smellie scored Otautau'e only try a few minutes after the start, but Hardv failed to convert. Kitto equalised for Ohai, Mills failed, but a little later kicked a penalty goal to make Ohai 6 Otautau 3. Ferguson scored Ohai's last try after a! neat movement, just forcing his way across^ Mr D. C". McCrostie efficiently, refereed a hard game. Riverton, 6, defeated Orawia Setnors^ 3. The latter tea'm was without several of < their regular men, including porter and McCorkjngdale, but thiß seasiderS made no mistake and deserved the 1 match on. the play. Otautau Juniors vjeited Ohai lastWednesday and were defeated by 18 points to 3. Otautau were too light in the forwards to hold Ohai, whose rushes ended in tries being score^, none of which were converted. Mr McManaway \yas referee.
