SOCIAL EVENING

Mr and Mrs F. J. Collie were host - and hostess for a social evening m the s Town Hall on Friday, 29th August, to ! celebrate the, coming of age of their 5 daugh.er Jessie and their son Lincisay. The hall was most tastefully decorated 1 with greenery, red and yellow , streamers and dancing was enjoyed to » music provided by Mrs Cupples and 1 Mr \Y. B. Ireland. : The supper, which was a sumptuous one, was laid on 4 tables on the stage, ! a big 2-storey cake with 21 candles : adorning the centre table, while all • were beautifully decorated m colours and spring flowers. After all present ; had pai taken freely of the many good things spread before them, Mr A. A. Fisher gave the Loyal toast and then asked Mr Liddel to propose, the toast of "Miss Jessie and Mr Lindsay Collie. 1 " The Chairman, Messrs R. Donnelly, Geo. Low and J. C. 1 Cillar added their testimony to the character' of the twins just entering their majority. Merriment was created by the many frequent references to personal instances m regard to. the celebration events and the toast was heartily (.trunk with musical honours followm s , In reply Mr Lindsay Collie thanked the speakers for the kindly references and the many handsome gifts given by all present. ,ln proposing the toast of the "Host and Hostess'" _\ir Hodges said, like everything else Mr and Mrs Gollie were connected with, they had acted generously and extended lavish hospitality. The large attendance present not only spoke of the esteem m which, the young people were held, but of their parents, all present desiring to do honour to them and celebrate with them on such a happy occasion. Tin toast was received with enthusiasm .and m respond ng Mr Collie thanked evryone for attending to their invitation, which was ample thanks for all they -themselves had done. He -then presented Miss Jessie" and Mr Lincisa^. each witlt a golden key as a symbol of their freedom and that they were no longer a charge on his exchequer. Mr J. C. Millar gave the toast of the "Chairman" prior to the dance and fun proceeding. Many present enjoyed a game of carde during the evening, while jin enclosed part was used for the good o] a games and "Puss m the Comer" and "Leap Frog." It is left* Ho tha ' imagination of readers to visualise the laughter, conversation and enjoyment that went to make for a most happy evening, prior to "Auld Lang Syne" and cheers for the host and hostess.
