"MUDGE SHIELD" MA'iCH. Central and Western junior Reps; played at Ohai on Saturday under fail conditions for the possession of .the Mudge Shield. It proved a very even game, m the early part Western held the upper hand and lodged many tm» slaughts from one of which L. Greer scored well out, Wilson failing to convert. Despite the fact that they were playing against the wind, Western again; attacked and for ten minutes held Central m their 25. The diminutive half-back, Carr, marked and neatly drop-kicked a goal to make Western 6. . . , Spurred by the reverse and beginning to find their feet, Central attacked, Calder being responsible for nice work to place Murphy m position for a fine try, but the kick failed. Central continued to attack*, but; tne- 'defences held and kalf..' time sounded. With the elements m their favour,,, and a lead of three points, it looked as if .Western would win^ Play opened willingly, Western starting several fine passing' movements but bad handling saw several lost opportunities. Central's defence proved sound and they took a hand on attack, the fight appearing to leave tTie black and. whites for a time. A bombardment of rucks and scrums on Western's ..line eventually saw Lumsden secure and although tackled, dive across and score. Murphy failed to goal and the scores stood at 6 all. K.
