The Recreation Ground

A meeting of representatives of the Football and Hockey Clubs, Athletio Society and Progressive League was held m the B larri Room on Friday evening to consider the question of improvements to the Recreation Ground, when the following wtre present : Misses W. and M; Arthur, M Strond, Messrs J. Mr J. C. Last year Mr Col.'ett had measured the ground, and he bad assured them that, provided the football area was shifted to the other end there was amp'e room t r a hockey ground, and the estimated cost was £100 ro £130. If this suggestion was carried out, tenders would havo-'to be called foi the work straight away, m order that a good sole of grass would be on the grouud for the winter, and a Carnival could not bo run before February or March. He was prepared to back the project tc the extent of £50 if the work was proceeded with immediately. He called frr suggestions to raise the necessary money. Mr Hodges, pointed out that the Athletic Society wanted the cash, and the League was also- in need of funds.

Mr Sinclair mentioned that a considerable amount of work to the value of £180 had been spent on the Recreation Ground by the Athletic Hooiety, to the benefit of all the Clubs concerned. He was of opinion that if a Carnival was held the Society was entitled to some consideration. It was m financial difficulties at present, and £20 to £25 would assist 1 them considerably. Mr Griffiths thought a working bee'cculd do the wor£ Required, and it could be done gradually. He favoured the idea of holding three or four large functions, all the money from which would be pooled, and divided prorata to any club ot society m need of funds. He moved that it b 6 a recommendation to the League "to call a meeting of all bodies to make concentrated efforts during the j year for the purpose of raising the money."— Seconded by Miss Stroud and carried.
