JUDGE'S COMMENTS.
Mrs McLeod. judge of the Dairy Pioduoe, said that the entries, though small, were good, and the winning exhibits m butter were outstanding. A number of exhibitors did not work their butter enough, consequently it was not fine enough m the grain. The judge of the Baking, Mr Millar, said that the exhibitors had!? gone to a lot of trouble, and that the section as a whole was good. The sponges and collection ofp«vstry were deserving.ot.special men* tiot,. He expected to see more entries m the home-made cakes. Mrs A. 0. Millar, who judged the jams and jellies, said ..they were very good. ' ' Mr Lennie said the garden vegetables wore a very creditable display. There, were Borne very good collections and nioe exhibits m that section. The exhibits m the Root Section were not so numerous as one might expect m an agricultural contra such as Otautau, nevertheless they were nicely selected, ■ and m nearly every ease cut very sound. The Potato section waa quite a strong one, there being some very tine tubers,, olean, free from any traoe of disease, and being generally correctly named arid well-staged, made this section really good. The exhibits ia the Fruit Section were not gui te so numerous as ia > fpr mer years, owing to the non-appearance of Tuatapere growers^ but as far ac quality was concerned it was* a good section. The appleß were very highly coloured and olean, and Bonie very good exhibits were eeut np. He thought the field turnips might ba brought forward m.o.e plentifully. Ti.6 seeds, were a good deal better than usual owing to the exceptional season. * YY In the Needlework Section Mrs John Casaels stated that it was a highly oredit* *able exhibition. The work of Mrs Evans and Miss Florrie Forbes deserved speoial mention, while the knitting was an out* standing feature of the Show. The various collections of fancy work were most diffi* cult to judge, owing to the high standard of work of all the entrants.
. Mr C. Cunningham said the poultry waa good as a whole. He was disappointed m the White Leghorn Cockerel class. The pullets, however, 'were first-rate, and he awarded four prizes m consequence. The Orpington cockerels were good, the first prize bird standing out a little better than the rest. The Orpington pullets were a nice class, the winner being a splendid type of bird, brilliant m colour, and gained the . speoial for the best bird m the -Show, and was exceptionally tight m the feather. Rhode lsland Reds were v poor class, the pullet being the best m the seotiou. Brown Leghorns were fair, the oockerel being . the best. The pullets showed too much tost, otherwise --they were good type birds. Minorcas were, few m number, the winking ' cockerel being a fair speoimen. The first hen was'paased for showing feathers on toes. This'defect a}so applied to the pullet. Indian Runner Ducks were a good class, the, winning drake showing better m carriage, although uot so good m head as second bird.* " As usual. Pets created a fair amount of io-.-terest. Two turkeys were ;forward and these are rarely seen m Shows' nowadays.
