Nightcaps Town Board.

The writer suggested that some tangible token should be given by the public benefited.— The Board decided to move m the matter. Letters were dealt w|th from two ratepayers m regard Ito drainage, also a complaint from owner of rubbish depot.— Messrs Sinclair and Tocld to inspect and report. A letter iv reply to Clerk's enquiries re contractors of Nightsoil was dealt with. A visit m person of the contractor turned out much more satisfactorily thau letter writing. —The contractor gave a satisfactory explanation, and alao made some suggestions to make his work more satisfactory both for himself and others concerned. — It was resolved to act on the contractor's suggestions after further investigation. A letter was received from Messrs Macalister Bros, askiug for information m regard to Borough matters.— The Clerk had given the necessary information, as it required immediate attention. —The Clerk's action m replying to Messrs Macalistor Bros/ letter was endorsed. A letter from t lie Health Department m regard to the matter of keeping pigs m a borough was received. Special information on dog tax collecting, striking a rate, receipt books and other books necessary to carry on Board business was receive.! from Mr John Fisher, Town Clerk, Otautau, who iv turn will receive an order to-supply tho necessary books. A pamphlet from the Minister of Internal Affairs, ro town planning and housing, was read and received. It was resolved to cail' a public meeting to get up a programme for the Peace Celebrations, also to consider the erect ion of a memorial to soldiers who have fallen m the War, and also to consider 0u : Electrical Power .Scheme. Tho Clerk was instructed t-j write to th<i Minister of Lands re an endowment to the Town Board, if the Minis tor would see his way to make one The Inspectors to ascertain amount of gravel needed for the streets and to have power to order s3oie. I Mr Sinclair, acting clerk, to have his residence registered as the office of the Board for the time being. Mr Win. Dixon whs appointed dog-tax collector. : t The appointment "of a' pounikeeper and ranger to be held over. It was reolved 10 move m the mat tor of having gorsc removed from the roads by the owners of property, a'so hedges overhanging to be cut back, also noxious weeds that were interfering with the drainage on tho roads. . j The damage done by Mr Furriers ! traction to the bridge while, hauling a cot- I tage aoross was discussed and it was I finally decided to wrilo to secretary of I Linton Coal Coy., 'who . employed the traction, nnd see what could be done to repair damage. The, driver of the said traction showed a threatening attitude wheu approached by a member of the Board, an.axejway, it ia alleged, flourished very freely, and this matter vhen reported, led to Mr Sinclair beinp appointed to act m aueh cases of emergency for the Board. In regard the Leitliam Street drainage members discussed the interview with Messrs Cody and Baker, of the Wallace County Council, which the members of tho Board had recently to leaVe m the hauds of Messrs Todd and Sinolair .'to find out the best fall for the soweragebefore commencing the work. The County Council members were not willing to commit them selves m the matter of helping.
