A SUMMER DAY
A beautiful rose ih the wind did blow, Rocked to and fro*, rocked to and fro; Seeking for honey a bee buzzed 'round, And there to the flower its way soon found. The rose,of a beautiful crimson hue, Was} open to sun, the stars, and tfie dew. The lilac and hyacinth, like jingling bells, Sweet music swept over the flower-decked dells. A butterfly d-ircled around the rose, And sought on its petals a short repose; The streamlet rippled a dulcet note, As sped on its bosom a tiny boat ; A fern tree lifted a dainty frond, Just as a fairy would raise a wand.
With fluttering pennons the lark rose high, Spreading its song o'er the bright blue sky; Then down again he would quickly sweep, And beg of the rose his secrets to keep; For of all the things he had seen and heard He told to the rose—yes, every word. Thus flower and bird, and even the stream, Did homage pay to the Rose, their Queen. Mubiel Eag-Vr (aged 12 years).
